ETMGDC January Meeting Minutes


The first meeting of the East Tennessee MG Drivers’ Club for the year 2017 was held at O’Charley’s Restaurant in Morristown, TN. on January 5th.

The meeting was convened about 7:00 PM by the club president Jim Steppe with seven members on an evening of predicted snowfall.

New Officers were sworn in with the usual high ceremony, rituals and trappings of office.

Treasurer Jolean Ballard gave a treasurer’s report.

Old Business:

It’s membership renewal time. Dues are due. Please bring them to the meeting or mail them.

Some of you still owe last years dues, come on, it’s only twenty bucks!

Jim thanked the club for the beautiful flours we sent for his mother’s funeral.

April Fools British Car Bash will be Saturday April 1, 2017 in Crossville, Tn.

New Business:

A potential funding method for the annual car show was discussed.

A motion to authorize the club president to cancel meetings in event of serious inclement weather and notify members by e-mail was proposed, seconded and approved.

The e-mail notification system embedded in the “members only” part of the club website set up by Mark Bourne, http://www.etmgdc.org, that sends an e-mail to all members was discussed. It is available to all members who log into that part of the website using the user name and password announced at meetings. A roster of all members and their linked e-mails can be found in that part of the site too. The roster on the website needs to be updated.

For whoever is in charge of nametags, Alan Birdsall needs a new one because his first name is misspelled on the old one.

Spencer Hogan‘s plan for a film and pizza event was discussed. We did not make it happen last year, but it is a great idea and would be a good annual event. We will keep working on this as technical session / program meeting to be held at a suitable location.

ETMGDC February Meeting Minutes

The February meeting was held at O’Charley’s Restaurant in Morristown, TN. on the 2nd.

The meeting was convened 7:30 PM by the president Jim Stepp with fifteen members and at least four British sports cars in the parking lot.

Treasurer Jolean Ballard reports $700.82 on deposit and $136.25 in the flower fund.

The Greenville Car Museum Winter Party is Saturday February 4th. It is the time when representatives from area clubs get together and coordinate events. Representatives of ETMGDC will have expedient flyers available to drum up interest in our Car Show.

There is an ETMGDC drive from Church Hill TN planned for Feb. 11th. Contact Bob Frazier for more info. Meet at the Church Hill Food Lion at 10 AM.

A Flyer Contest: All interested members may submit flyer designs for the 3rd Annual Morristown British and European Car Show to Jim at jstepp3@charter.net ASAP.

The 30th Springtime in the Smokies British Car Show in Townsend TN will be May 12th – 14th. 2017. A must see! See http://www.blountbritishcars.org/ fore more information.

IMPORTANT: We need at least 8 members to belong to the MGB Registry for insurance coverage through them for our show. If you are a member please let Jim Stepp know.

I’ll have county maps at the next meeting for those who wish to scout out historical and other points of interest in their home county for future excursions of ETMGDC members.

The meeting was convened 7:30 PM by the president Jim Stepp with 13 members and at least four British sports cars in the parking lot.

Treasurer Jolean Ballard reported $820.82 on deposit and $136.25 in the flower fund.

Old Business:

The Greenville Car Museum Winter Party was Saturday February 4th. Representatives of ETMGDC attended to drum up interest in our Car Show.

Our Morristown British and European Car Show will be June 3rd 2017. Jim presented the new show flyer and will make minor changes before publication and circulation. He appointed a show committee of Jim Stepp, Eddie and Jolean Ballard, Alan Birdsall and Larry Peck to meet and coordinate the event.
Jim reported that an area has been set aside for a “Funkhana” event as part of the show. A Funkhanas is low-speed, light-hearted competitions conducted that is a test of dexterity and patience. Here is a website that describes them. http://www.funkhana.com/

Bob Frazier reported on the 10-car drive from Church Hill TN that was on Feb. 11th.

The April Fools British Car Bash will be Saturday April 1, 2017 at Lake Tansi or Cumberland Mtn State Park in Crossville, TN. A covered dish lunch (bring a side dish or desert to share) starts at 12 noon CDT (that’s 1 PM Eastern Daylight Time. This is a BIG car show hosted by the Plateau British Car Club http://www.pbcctn.org/ but

County maps were handed out for those who wish to scout out drives. With Google Maps & Google Street view you can plan a drive and even see the views, but you’d have to drive it to get the timing down and find a good lunch spot.

The Appalachian British Car Society, of Kingsport is having a drive on Saturday March 11th 2017 from Kingsport. If you are interested, call Bob Frazier at (423) 272-9095.

ETMGDC April Meeting Minutes


The meeting was held at O’Charley’s Restaurant in Morristown, on the April 6, 2017.

It was convened at 7:20PM by the president Jim Stepp with only 8 members present.

Treasurer Jolean Ballard reports $840.86 on deposit and $136.25 in the flower fund.

Old Business:

Our Morristown British and European Car Show will be June 3rd 2017.

The show committee: Jim Stepp, Eddie & Jolean Ballard, Alan Birdsall, Jim Watson and Larry Peck will meet 9:30 am Saturday April 22nd at Java Garden in Morristown.

Those who attended report on The April Fools British Car Bash April 1, in Crossville.

Jim Watson reported on the 30th Springtime in the Smokies British Car Show in Townsend TN. It will be May 12th – 14th. 2017. A must see! See http://www.blountbritishcars.org/ for more information. Also a possible Total Eclipse of the Sun Run on August 21, 2017 might be in the works.

New Business:

The Kingsport Club is going to the “5th Annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life Car Show” on June 17th 2017 9am – 2 pm at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport. If you are interested, call Bill at (423) 534-3952. Admission is free.

ETMGDC May Meeting Minutes

The meeting was held at O’Charley’s Restaurant in Morristown, on the May 4, 2017.

It was convened at 7:25 PM by the president Jim Stepp with 15 members attending.

Treasurer Jolean Ballard reported $820.82 on deposit and $139.25 in the flower fund.

Old Business:

Our Morristown British and European Car Show will be June 3rd 2017.

The show committee met April 17 and Jim Stepp reported results to the membership.

Members turned in sponsors’ money and names so they can be listed on a show banner.

A Funkhana (see http://www.funkhana.com/) will be held starting at 1:00 at the show. Vice President Alan Birdsall is running it with Larry Peck assisting.

Insurance: The MGB Registry member list will be compiled by Jim Stepp and reported at the June meeting.

A food vendor and two other vendors will be at the show. Other details were discussed.

The Next Meeting on June 1st Will Be An Hour Early, so we can stuff envelops and make entry placards for the show. Please bring any donations for the silent auction to that meeting.

ETMGDC June Meeting Minutes


Our Morristown British and European Car Show will be Tomorrow - June 3rd 2017


The meeting was held at O’Charley’s Restaurant in Morristown, on June 1st2017. There were 15 members in attendance.

The Meet and Greet was an hour early, so we would have time to stuff envelopes, make entry placards and do other preparations for the car show this Saturday. After eating a work party ensued which at some point evolved into an informal meeting. The treasurer’s report was deferred to next month (after the show)

Donations for the silent auction were collected by Eddie and Jolean Ballard. Please bring any additional donations to the show.

Alan Birdsall presented his plan for the Funkana to the executive committee and we have a shortage of volunteers. All Hands on deck! We will need help at the 1:00 PM Funkana for about an hour. Please volunteer if you see Alan or me at the show and we’ll tell you when and where to meet.

Show up about 8:00 tomorrow if you want to help with the show set up. The show is from 9 AM to 2 PM at:

Jim and Mylinda Watson gave a report on the The 30th Springtime in the Smokies British Car Show in Townsend TN – 118 cars entered & big bucks raised for charity.

Correction to May Minutes from club secretary: There were 17 members in attendance, not 15.

ETMGDC July Meeting Minutes

The meeting was held at O’Charley’s Restaurant in Morristown, on July 6, 2017.

It was convened at 7:30 PM by the president Jim Stepp with 15 members present.

Treasurer Jolean Ballard issued a detailed report on the car show, which raised $2180 for the Daily Bred Charity. That compares with $1728 in 2014 and $1102 in 2015 when there was predicted and actual rain.

Old Business: After action report on our Morristown British and European Car Show of June 3rd 2017.

Congratulations to show chairman Jim Stepp, Funkhana chairman Alan Birdsall and everyone else who worked to make this show a success and fun.

New Business: July 22, ETMGDC Grainger County Tour. Starting at 9 am at Clinch Mountain Veterans Overlook on US 25-E and ending up at Alan and Jane Birdsalls house for a covered dish cook-out. More details will be sent out by e-mail.

ETMGDC August Meeting Minutes

The meeting was held at O’Charley’s Restaurant in Morristown, on Aug. 3, 2017.

It was convened at 7:20 PM by the president Jim Stepp with 17 members present.

Treasurer Jolean Ballard reports $1042.82 on deposit and $144.75 in flower fund.

Old Business: The After action report on the July 22, ETMGDC Grainger County Tour and Cookout at Alan and Jane Birdsall’s house was presented. The tour can be slightly expanded for next year and done in a cooler part of the year; Spring or Fall.

The Total Eclipse of the Sun Run is on
Monday August 21 st 2017

Hosted by the Blount British Car club.

In event of rain or overcast skies the eclipse will be rescheduled.

Jim Watson is the point of contact for this event. His latest e-mail will be forwarded to the members on this mailing list immediately after these minutes are sent out. It has a link to a map of the location of the farm where the event is being held, attachments of pictures of the field from which we will be watch the eclipse and the menu for lunch is attached. The cost will be $15.00 per person. If you RSVP, we are counting you for lunch unless told differently. Eclipse sunglasses will be for sale if you need some, $1.

There will be members from several clubs there so use your nametags.

Many of us will take our daily use cars for this event, but if people want to gather to drive in groups, I suggest that you meet up with the Blount County Club at the Foothills Mall Sears parking lot at 10:15 am and follow along with them. Our members generally would go down Interstate 81/40 or US 11 E or US 11 W so one link up point is impractical for our club. If you want to travel together please arrange it with other members whom you know will use the same route you use In a show of hands, 11 members said they intended to go. Please note, the driveway at the farm is gravel.

Member lead rides were discussed but none were scheduled.

It was suggested that the Flower Fund be dissolved and incorporated into the general fund for ease of record keeping. A motion to that effect will be made at the next meeting.

ETMGDC October Meeting Minutes:


The meeting was held at O’Charley’s Restaurant in Morristown, Oct 5, 2017

It was convened at 7:12pm by the Vice President Alan Birdsall with 10 members and 2 guests present.

The Treasurer’s Report: Eddie Ballard reported a balance of $882.82 on deposit and $129.95 in the flower fund.

Old Business:
Alan Birdsall gave an After Action Report for the Morristown EAA Fly–In and Cruise-in, an impromptu club event. If you have any pictures of this or any other club event, please e-mail them and a caption to Mark Bourne at: mgble@yahoo.com so he can post them on the Website.
Eddie Ballard made a motion to abolish the flower fund and role it into the general fund for ease of bookkeeping. The motion was seconded and passed.

Annual SBCC Chattanooga Choo Choo Show, October 26-29, 2017.

New Business from the floor: Prior to the vote on the Flower Fund, the members present tasked the Executive Board with developing new written guidelines for when the club will and will not buy flowers.

ETMGDC November Meeting Minutes:



The meeting was held at O’Charley’s Restaurant, Morristown, Nov 2, 2017

President Jim Stepp convened the meeting at 6:50 pm with 7 members present.

The Treasurer’s Report: reported a balance of $1012.77 on deposit.

Old Business:

Rescheduled Fall Color Cruise: The Kingsport Club’s Fall Color Cruise scheduled for Oct. 28th was canceled due to rain. For those who wish to try again, please see “Upcoming Events” below.

The 2018 Morristown British & European Car Show: Jim had big news about next years ETMGDC car show. The City of Morristown and/ or the Downtown Merchant’s Association have asked us to hold our next show on Main Street on the First Saturday of June 2018.

They will block off the street and provide live music for the show. We will need volunteers for the show. Please mark your calendars, and keep a lookout for silent auction donations. We will have a flyer ASAP and there is still much planning to do. Anybody wishing to or willing to serve on the Car Show Committee should of contact Jim Stepp.

Upcoming Events:

Fall Color Cruise: The Kingsport Club’s Fall Color Cruise scheduled for Oct. 28th was canceled due to rain. Those who wish to try again this Saturday November 4th are to assemble at the Burger King in Rogersville, TN so they can leave at 10 am. In event of rain it will be canceled. Please contact Bob if you can attend.

New Business:

Christmas Dinner: The next meeting will be the club’s Christmas Dinner. It is tentatively planned to be held at Lisa’s Country Kitchen 1712 Tennessee State Route 92 in Jefferson City 37760 at the usual time of 6:15 PM on the first Thursday of December – December 7th. Any change in this plan will be sent out by e-mail and in the December meeting reminder.
