Minutes of December 5, 2013

Treasury report by Joanne Hamilton shows $831.98 currently in the ETMGDC account.

Chuck and Joanne Hamilton notified the club that they will be moving to Georgia next month which requires the group to elect a new treasurer. After discussion, Jolean Powellvolunteered to accept the position and was approved by the group. It was also decide that the club treasury account will remain with the credit union we currently use.

The current secretary tendered his resignation and Jim Watson graciously agreed to assume the position. This was approved by the club.

The winter drive will be held late to mid January and will be a trip to the automotive museum in Greenville, TN. Admission to the museum includes lunch. Last year’s drive to the museum was well received and enjoyed by all who attended.

The awarding of charitable gifts was discussed and it was agreed that the Morristown Women's’ Cancer Group and the no-kill animal shelter Noah’s Ark would each receive $100 from the club.

A drive committee was appointed for next year and includes the following members: Spencer Hogan, Jim Watson, Mark Bourne, and Jim Stepp. The group will try to meet later this month. Mark Bourne will send out an email to schedule a meeting for the committee.

Discussion of the April Bash revealed that Harrison Bay State Park in Chattanooga will the location for 2014.

Herren Floyd distributed revised membership rosters with current contact information for members. Herron also provided cell phone lists that are useful during drives. Thank you Herren!

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm.

Minutes of November 7, 2013

The meeting was called to order at 8:00 pm by club president Mark Bourne. Old business came first with discussion about the Pine Mountain drive. The fall foliage drive was good but the leaf color was not yet at peak. Discussion of plans for the December meeting was presented as new business. It will be held at O’Charley’s as usual and will be our Christmas celebration.

Discussion on giving money as a charitable effort was held. Members agreed that two gifts of $100 each should be awarded to local charities. Members are encouraged to send recommendations for awards to Mark.

Herron Floyd circulated updated membership and contact list and asked members to make any corrections or changes required to make the list current.

Jon Whitt brought MG magazines for distribution to anyone wishing to have them.
18 members and guests were in attendance.

Minutes of October 3rd, 2013


Dinner was enjoyed by all and then the meeting was called to order at 8:00 pm. Chuck Gaines of the Kingsport club joined our club. Welcome Chuck!

Pine Mountain Fall Foliage drive will be on October 13, 2013. On October 26, 2013 the Kingsport Club will hold their Fall Foliage Drive. Members of the ETMGDC are invited to join the drive. Details to be posted on the club website. JoAnn reported that the treasury balance is currently $748.00 This date being

Mark Bourne’s birthday, a birthday cake provided by Karyn Bourne was cut and shared with the group. Happy Birthday Mark.

A total of 32 people (members and guests) attended the meeting. There being no new business, the meeting was adjourned.



Minutes of September 5th, 2013

 

The September 2013 meeting of the East Tennessee MG Drivers Club was held on Thursday, September 5th at O'Charley's restaurant in Morristown. There were 17 members present including a surprise visit by Travis Witt. The meeting was called to order by our club president, Mark Bourne. JoAnn Hamilton reported that the club treasury currently stands at $726.00, not including the $16.00 added from the evening's 50/50 drawing. Mark called for old business, however there were no topics of old business open for discussion. Mark then called for new business and Susanne Neidert brought up the Jaguar Concours and All-British Car Show to be held this Saturday in Greeneville. Mark announced that the Paint Creek access road has now been repaired and suggested that the club might want to reschedule the drive and picnic for September 28th. There was general agreement by the membership in favor. George Green suggested that the club might want to reconsider the scheduling of the Pine Mountain drive as the current date of November 10th was beyond the optimum time for viewing the Fall foliage. The members were reminded that the popular Fall Colors Drive was scheduled for October 26th. It was suggested that we consider moving Pine Mountain to October 12th. JoAnn Hamilton suggested that the club officers update a listing of members with pertinent address, phone and cell numbers. Mark reminded us that most of this information was available and regularly updated on the club's website. It was agreed that an available printed list of cell numbers would be convenient for use on drives. There was a short discussion about the cost of free member badges as in some cases, the cost exceeds member dues. This was tabled for discussion toward the end of this year. Eddie Ballard won the 50-50 drawing. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

 


Minutes of August 1st, 2013

 

The regular monthly meeting of the East Tennessee MG Drivers Club was held on August 1st at O'Charley's restaurant in Morristown. The meeting was called to order by Mark Bourne, our club president. There were 17 members present. JoAnn Hamilton gave the treasurer's report stating that there is $726.00 in the club's treasury. Under old business, Mark informed the membership that the scheduled picnic at Cherokee Park had to be cancelled as all available week-end dates had been reserved by other parties. The scheduled drive to Paint Creek is also cancelled as the access road has been washed out due to recent heavy rains. Mark asked members for suggestions to replace the cancelled events. Under new business, Jim Watson suggested the club members get together to join in the Cruise-In at the Morristown Mall on the 10th. Those interested in participating will meet at the Sagebrush for a meal or snacks at 4:00 p.m. Jim also reminded members of the forthcoming Rugby car show to be held in Rugby on August 24th. Jim Stepp invited all club members to participate in a surprise birthday party for Lynetta Stepp to be held at Fernwood Baptist Church on August 19th. Jim Stepp also invited members to participate in a car show sponsored by Fernwood Baptist Church, to be held on Saturday, September 21st. There being no further business to be discussed, the meeting was adjourned.

 

Minutes of July 2, 2013


The July meeting of the ETMGDC was called to order at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2013. The meeting date was moved to accommodate the July 4th holiday and was held at O’Charley’s in Morristown. Twenty-four members and three guests were present. Paul and Catherine Ireson became members.

Minutes of the June 6, 2013 meeting were approved as written.

JoAnn Hamilton reported $676.50 currently in the ETMGDC treasury.

Seven cars participated in the Metcalf Bottoms in the Smokies. Jim Watson noted tht the date for the drive was unclear. The members who were there agreed that a good time was had by all.

The Hawkins County drive on Saturday, June 29 was attended by 17 cars. Bob and Judie Mabey were hosts and the designers of the route which included fun roads and great views of the countryside. The drive ended at Zoder’s where a delicious lunch was enjoyed.

The Hot Springs drive will be on Saturday, July 13. Members are to meet at 10:00 am at McDonald’s in Greenville. Some of the members decided to meet in Morristown with details to follow. There will be a picnic in Pisgah National Forest. The Western North Carolina club will join the drive.

July 27th is the date members will meet at the Jersey Girl in Morristown for the Cruise In at the College Square Mall in Morristown. Jim Stepp said it would be good if the Cruise In is well represented by MGs.

Jim Watson presented highlights of the August 24, 2013 British Car Show at Rugby. Overnight rooms are available for those who wish to stay over.

Present Mark Bourne said that members who would like to have their MGs or other British cars included in the club’s website should forward their picture to Mark.

Members were reminded to visit the event listing on the ETMGDC website for a listing of the upcoming drives and meetings.

Minutes of June 6, 2013



Eighteen members were present for the meeting on June 6, 2013 in Morristown O’Charley’s.

Members were reminded that the July meeting falls on the Fourth of July. After discussion and agreement, it was decided that the July meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 8:00 pm.

It was announced that the expenses for the April Fools’ Bash have been settled.

Jim Watson related the highlights of the Springtime in the Smokies in Townsend. Approximately 100 cars were there. Next year will follow the same format. Everyone paid for their own food rather than expense the club.

The drive to Rogersville was not well attended due in part to the bad weather. Less than 15 members were in attendance. One third of the roads were closed because of the weather. The Rogersville drive will be repeated on June 29th. Lunch will be at Yoder’s restaurant. Bob Mabey agreed to contact the restaurant and make reservations if needed. Members are asked to RSVP to Bob by June 20. Members are to meet at 9:00 am at Burger King in Rogersville.

Club caps are still for sale at the discounted price of $13.00. The design of a patch to replace the hats will be started after the current inventory of hats has been depleted.

The treasury report was postponed until the July meeting.

The MGA car show at Biltmore will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2013. The full program will start on Monday and continue through Thursday. It was unsure whether the car show was included in the price of admission to Biltmore.

The drive to Metcalf Bottoms in the Smokies is on June 15, 2013. Members were asked to bring their own picnic lunch and chairs, plus a dessert to pass around. The members are to meet at 11:30 am.

Their being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.

Minutes of May 2, 2013



The meeting came to order with 20 members present. The minutes for the April meeting were approved.

The Maynardville drive was held on March 4, 2013. This new drive led by Jim Stepp was fun for all and he is looking for additional routes to add for the next Maynardville excursion.

Mark Bourne reported the Jonesboro MGB is progressing in Jim Watson’s care. People from several local clubs have assisted in the repair of this car.

The Townsend show was discussed. All members were reminded to visit. Mark Bourne said he would send an email to all with additional details.

Bob and Judy Mabey have designed a drive which includes an invitation to a picnic lunch on May 18th. Bob has requested a headcount for the lunch. Those who plan to attend should send him an email. Members are asked to bring a covered dish to share. Bob and Judy will provide hot dogs and hamburgers and the fixings.

Discussion was held on the remaining ETMGDC caps in inventory. Markk Bourne and Jim Watson have the remaining hats in existence. A motion was passed to sell the remaining inventory for $12 each. Motion was also made and approved to design a patch instead of ordering more caps. The patch could be sewn to a hat, vest, or whatever the members wish to place it on.

The 50/50 drawing was won by Bob Mabey.

JoAnne Hamilton reported that the treasury balance is $879.08. However the final dispersement of the April Fools Bash expenses has not yet been made. This should happen in May.

Minutes of April 4, 2013



Seventeen members attended the April meeting at O’Charley’s Morristown. The minutes of the March 2013 meeting were sent out via email for member review. There being no additions or corrections the minutes will stand as submitted.

April Fools Bash was held on March 30. There were 55 British cars at the bash and approximately 120 people enjoyed the day. Our cost was $248.58 and will be paid for out of the club treasury.

Jim Watson went to Jonesboro to look at the MGB that needs completion for the widow of the owner. Jim brought the car back to his garage in Maryville. Members will assist Jim with the completion of this vehicle and it will be returned to Jonesboro.

Jim Stepp has developed a drive from Morristown to Maynardville along the north side of Cherokee Lake. The drive is scheduled for April 13, 2013. Members will meet at College Square Mall in Morristown at 10:00 am.

The 28th Mini Motor Sport Classic will be held April 26, 27, 28 in Atlanta. MGB is the featured car this year. A challenge race between MGBs and Minis will be held.

It was announced that May 4, 2013 has been designated as Drive Your MGA Day.

May 10 through May 12 is Springtime in the Smokies. A barbeque and bluegrass music will be provided on Saturday evening May 11. The Tally Ho will offer discounts to anyone staying there who is with the car club.

Jim Henry introduced his daughter Gail at the meeting. The 50/50 drawing was won by JoAnn Hamilton.

Minutes of March 7, 2013

The March meeting of the ETMGDC was called to order on the evening of March 7, 2013 at O’Charley’s in Morristown with 21 members and visitors present.

Mark Bourne announced that minutes of club meeting will be submitted to the club web page for member review. Members are asked to identify any errors and submit changes or additions to Mark prior to the next meeting.

Discussion was held on proposal to alter our meeting location. Prior moves by the club demonstrated that other locations had not been consistent in reserving a private area on a standing basis. Members decided to remain at O’Charley’s.

A drive to Bush Brothers plant was planned for March 9th at 10:30 am.

JoAnn Hamilton reported the treasury balance is $834.00. A container was passes to members for contributions to the flower fund.

A schedule of drives for 2013 has been added to the club web site. Jim Watson reminded everyone that the 2013 April Fools British Car Bash is scheduled for March 30 in Maryville. The Kingsport British Car Club and the ETMGDC will host the event and share expenses. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish for all to enjoy. Hamburgers and hot dogs as well as drinks will be provided.

A lady from Jonesboro has contacted the club to ask for assistance in finishing a B her husband was repairing when he passed away. Jim Watson said he would contact her and try to visit the car in order to determine what remains to be done to make the car drivable.

The 2013 British Car Show is scheduled for May 10, 11, 12 in Townsend. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm.



Minutes of February 7, 2013

The monthly meeting of the ETMGDC on February 7, 2013 was held at an alternate location due to a water problem at O’Charley’s. Jim Stepp quickly secured an alternate meeting room at Justin’s restaurant in Morristown. Members were called to notify them of the change in location. Eighteen members were in attendance. The March meeting will be held at O’Charley’s.

Old Business

Discussion of the effort to develop a list of potential drives for this year resulted in a new meeting scheduled for 2/16/2013 at 6:00 pm at Cracker Barrel at exit 8 on I-81. Members on the planning committee are Jim Stepp, Mark Bourne, Jim Watson, and Mike Thomas.

The trip to the Bewley Car Museum in Greeneville was a fun event that included lots of antique cars, good food, and snow. Six members of the ETMGDC attended and a large number of members from the Blount County British Car Club.

New Business

A donation of $50 to the Fernwood Baptist Church in honor of Jim Stepp’s father-in-law who recently passed away. Jim expressed appreciation to the club members for the donation.

Ooltewah British Car Rally is scheduled for February 10, 2013.

Road Atlanta is scheduled for April 26 - 28, 2013. MG is the featured car this year. The phone number for additional information is 698-428-7651.

Wayne Stroud was unable to attend the meeting due to shoulder surgery. He is wished a speedy recovery.

The British Car Bash will be held March 30, 2013 in Blount County. Additional details will be presented at the next meeting. Our club is a co-host of the event and will pay $200 to support it.

 



MINUTES OF THE JANUARY, 2013 MONTHLY MEETING

The regular monthly meeting of the ETMGDC was held on January 3 at O’Charley’s restaurant in Morristown, TN. There were 15 members present. Minutes of the December 2012 meeting were read and approved.

A announcement was made that 2013 club dues are $20 per couple and these are due in January/February. Five members paid dues at the meeting. The money was given to JoAnn Hamilton for deposit in the club checking account. Jo Ann said the current balances on the club’s funds were $919 in the checking account and $73 in the flower fund.

Several members suggested that more drives and social activities be planned for the club in 2013. JoAnn Hamilton presented what she sees as the meaning of the club and what it is all about. She also recommended more emphasis on social activities in the coming year.

A committee was formed to research and recommend a schedule of potential drive destinations for 2013. Members who volunteered for the committee are Jim Stepp, Mark Bourne, Bob Mabrey and Jim Watson. The committee will meet on Saturday, January 18. Members were encouraged to send suggestions to the committee via email. Committee members will try to present a proposed schedule at the February meeting.

A suggestion was made and discussed by members to establish “tech” sessions at members’ homes to assist in problem solving or help on difficult repairs.

The MGA club is scheduled to have a meeting at Biltmore this spring.
