2009 Club Meetings

Meeting December 3, 2009

The club met at O'Charley's restaurant with thirteen members attending and George Greene presiding. Attending were: Al & Liz Bauerly; Mark & Karyn Bourne; Carl & Herren Floyd; George & Teresa Greene; Chuck & JoAnn Hamilton; Jim & Melinda Watson; and Jon Whitt. The Humane Society representative who was invited to give a talk and receive a $300 donation from the club and other gifts brought by members did not come, so George said he would deliver them to the animal shelter.

JoAnn reported that a donation of $50 was made in honor of our deceased member Jim Neidert to the TEA Party fund in lieu of flowers as requested by Jim's family. Our remaining flower fund balance was $41.50 and donations from members were taken at the meeting. The club treasury balance was reported to be about $700 after the donation to the Humane Society.

Our Drives Committee members for next year, Al Bauerly, Teresa Greene, and Jim Watson plan to meet in January and asked for suggestions for driving events from other members.

Jon suggested that the club present a memorial plaque comemorating Jim Neidert. Karyn suggested establishing an annual driving event in his honor. Both suggestions were favorably received and the club board members will consider doing either or both.

Meeting November 5, 2009

The club met at O'Charley's restaurant. George Greene presided, having returned home from his out-of-state job.

Thirteen members attended including: Al & Liz Bauerly; Mark & Karyn Bourne; Carl & Herren Floyd; George & Teresa Greene; Chuck & JoAnn Hamilton; Jim Neidert; Jim Watson; and Jon Whitt. We also had a guest, Jen Guilford, whom Jim Watson has been helping with some mechanical problems.

The recent Hiwassee Railroad adventure and the Fall Colors Drive were discussed. Both were enjoyed by all who participated.

The club treasury balance was reported to be $1,035.

The club decided by unanimous vote of members attending, to donate $300 to the Humane Society. A representative will be invited to come to the December meeting to receive the gift. The club will pay for his or her meal. Members may bring an appropriate gift to be used at the animal shelter such as dog food, animal toys, old quilts, or towels.

Al Bauerly, Teresa Greene, and Jim Watson volunteered to serve on the club's Drives Committee next year. They would like to hear suggestions for driving events from other members. The committee will try to coordinate with driving events of other nearby clubs to avoid conflicting dates.

An overnight event is being planned for May of 2010 in conjunction with Blount British Car's show in Townsend. Participants would spend one night in Towsend May 7, enjoy the show on May 8, and then drive to Fontana Lake to stay overnight at Fontana Village.

Jim Watson talked about the fundraising event to be held this Saturday, November 7, for the benefit of the Wilderwood Service Dogs organization in Maryville who supply trained dogs to help autistic children. It will be a Poker Run driving event starting at 9:30 AM at Sandy Springs Park. A poker card will be given to each car at each of five stops. The best poker hand at the finish wins. The entry fee is $10. Lunch will be available afterwards for participants.

Meeting October 1, 2009

The club met at O'Charley's restaurant. Vice-President Chuck Hamilton presided in President George Greene's absence. JoAnn Hamilton took notes of the meeting in the secretary's absence.

Only nine members attended including: Al & Liz Bauerly; Mark & Karyn Bourne; Teresa Greene; Chuck & JoAnn Hamilton; Jim Watson; and Jon Whitt.

Jim Watson discussed the upcoming car show sponsored by the Blount County Historical Society. He described the trophies and prizes to be awarded to the various classes of cars. The entry fee is $25 per car.

There was a lively discussion about the poor attendance at the last two meetings. Suggestions to improve attendance included multiple email reminders of meetings and a letter asking members for their support.

Teresa Greene suggested that four members volunteer to serve on the club's Drives Committee in 2010.

Teresa reminded members of the Hiwassee Railroad adventure from Ottawah on Saturday, October 17 in conjunction with the Southern British Car Club of Chattanooga.

Jim Watson announced that the April British Car Fools Bash will be hosted by Southern British Car Club of Chattanooga and will be held at Watts Bar Lake.

Al Bauerle discussed the annual Fall Colors Drive coming up Saturday, October 24. The drive will begin at 10:00 AM from Burger King in Rogersville and will cover about 84 miles in about two and a half hours. It will end with a late lunch at Pig N Chick Restaurant in Rogersville.

Mark Bourne announced that his 1980 MGB Limited Edition is now back on the road with an overdrive and newly rebuilt engine. He thanked members for their support and assistance with the project.

Meeting September 3, 2009

The club met at O'Charley's restaurant. Chuck Hamilton presided in George Greene's absence.

We were surprised to have only seven members in attendance. They were: Al & Liz Bauerle; Carl Floyd; Herren Floyd; Teresa Greene; and Chuck & JoAnn Hamilton.

The club treasury balance was reported to be $1,026.98.

The only old business was the continuing need for a member to serve as Treasurer for the club Herren suggested that the club consider changing the by-laws to combine the duties of the Secretary and the Treasurer into one officer to serve as Secretary-Treasurer at the next election of club officers.

When our President George Greene returns home from his out-of-state job, he would like to call a board meeting in late September or early October to plan some club events.

We are invited to participate in the British car show at Sycamore Shoals in Elizabethton, Tennessee on Saturday, September 12. The show is sponsored jointly by ABCS and the Smoky Mountain Jaguar club in conjunction with the annual Celtic Festival. There is no registration fee, and car show participants are admitted free into the festival.

Teresa gave a report on the recent drive to Pine Mountain State Park in Kentucky and thefine meal at the park lodge. She brought in a copy of an article with photographs written by Jim Watson.

Meeting August 6, 2009

The club met at O'Charley's restaurant on August 6. Chuck Hamilton presided in George Greene's absence. Fourteen members attended including: Mark & Karyn Bourne; Carl & Herren Floyd; Teresa Greene; Chuck & JoAnn Hamilton; Rocky & Karen O'Quinn; Jim & Melinda Watson; and Jon Whitt.

The club treasury balance was reported to be $1,034.90. The only old business was the continuing need for a member to serve as Treasurer for the club.

Jim Watson announced that the Blountville Children's Home will be celebrating 115 years of service and will be holding an open house and a British car show on August 22. The Blount British Car club has been a supporter since 1984, and Jim urged our club to support them this year. There will be food and entertainment. Jim will have more details next week.

Our club is invited to enter ABCS's questionnaire-type rally Saturday, August 15. The rally will start at 9:30 AM across from Exchange Place in Kingsport.

Our club is also invited to join a BBC drive to Pine Mountain State Park in Kentucky on Saturday, August 29. Lunch at the park's Lodge buffet will cost around twelve dollars and will be a really fine meal.

Meeting July 2, 2009

The club met at O'Charley's restaurant on July 2. Chuck Hamilton presided in George Greene's absence. Attending were: Mark & Karyn Bourne; Carl & Herren Floyd; Teresa Greene; Chuck & JoAnn Hamilton; Jim & Susanne Neidert; and Jon Whitt. There were twelve in attendance including Chuck and JoAnn Hamilton's son Terry and grandson Danny.

The very enjoyable club picnic at the lakeside home of Jim and Susanne Neidert on June 27 was mentioned. Susanne told us that a limited number of Iacocca Mustangs will be manufactured by Ford this year.

Chuck and Carl discussed the vintage car races held at the Virginia International Raceway last month which featured races between MGB and Morgan sports cars and was attended by several members.

The club treasury balance was reported to be $1,000.14 and the flower fund balance to be $51.00.

Our next driving event will be our annual drive to Hot Springs for a picnic lunch on Saturday, July 11. We will meet at McDonald's on Tennessee State Route 70 near the Tacoma Hospital in Greeneville and leave from there at 10:00 AM. Bring a picnic lunch and beverages. After the picnic, we will go into the town of Hot Springs for a stroll and some ice cream and then drive back to Greeneville where the drive will end.

Teresa announced that our club is invited by the Blount British Car Club to participate in their drive on Saturday, July 18 to Roaring forks and lunch at the Ship's Pub near Gatlinburg. More details about the drive will be provided later.

Meeting June 4, 2009

Eighteen mmbers and guests met at O'Charley's restaurant at 7:00 PM for another evening of fellowship and another good meal. Chuck Hamilton presided in George's Greene's absence. Attending were: Robert Barnes; Herren & Otti Floyd; Teresa Greene; Chuck Hamilton; Jim & Susanne Neidert with her brother and his wife Richard & Janet Stephenson; Rocky and Karen O'Quinn; Jim Watson; Jon & Karen Whitt with their son Sam and their daughter and her husband Sarah and Eric Lingerfelt; and Travis Whitt.

The club was pleased to welcome five guests and two new members. Rocky and Karen O'Quinn who came as guests in May joined our club. Karen is Teresa Greene's first cousin. We were glad to see Travis Whitt, son of our late club founder Mark Whitt. Travis is attending the US Air Force Academy in Colorado. We were also pleased to welcome back our member Robert Barnes who was hospitalized this winter with a serious case of lung disease which is now somewhat improved.

We discussed the upcoming June 27 club picnic at the lakeside home of Jim and Susanne Neidert. Hotdogs and hamburgers and lemonade and ice tea will be furnished. Members should bring a covered dish or desert and any other beverage choice, bathing suits, folding chairs, and fishing gear. There will be swimming, fishing, a pontoon boat ride, and a jet ski. Plan to arrive at 11:00 am and spend the afternoon. Driving directions are posted on the club website Members Only page. Call Jim or Susanne on their cell phones if you get lost.

Chuck discussed the vintage car races this Thursday through Sunday at the Virginia International Raceway daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association will feature races betwwen MGB and Morgan sports cars. Several members will be attending including Chuck & JoAnn, Al & Liz Bauerle, Paul Kern, and Juan Dominguez.

Meeting May 7, 2009

The club met at O'Charley's restaurant at 7:00 PM for another evening of fellowship and another good meal. The meeting was attended by eleven members: Al & Liz Bauerle; Juan Dominguez; Herren Floyd; George & Teresa Greene; Chuck & JoAnn Hamilton; Nate & Carol Patterson; and Jon Whitt.

The club was pleased to welcome two guests, Rocky and Karen Quinn. Karen is Teresa Greene's first cousin. We were also pleased to welcome back Al and Liz Bauerle who had not been active with our club for a while until the April British Car Fools Bash last month.

We discussed the upcoming annual British Car Gathering sponsored by Blount British Car Club in Townsend, Tennessee on Saturday, May 9. Several members plan to attend, and some of our cars will be entered in the show.

We decided to cancel the driving event planned for May 23 on account of it falling on the Memorial Day holiday weekend and its conflicting with the annual car show at Memory Lane. The drive to Jonesboro will be rescheduled for a later date.

Our club still needs a member to come forward and volunteer to serve the club as treasurer to replace Diane Barns who had to resign. Our president announced that we have about $1,100 in the club treasury.

Meeting April 2, 2009

The club met at O'Charley's restaurant at 7:00 PM for some more great fellowship and another good meal. The meeting was attended by twelve members: Mark & Karyn Bourne; Juan Dominguez; new member Willard Eldridge; Herren Floyd; George & Teresa Greene; Chuck & JoAnn Hamilton; Paul Kern; Mike Merritt; and Jon Whitt.

The club was pleased to welcome our new member Willard Eldridge who was invited to join by our member Nate Patterson. Willard has a British racing green 1967 Triumph Spitfire which he has owned for many years and is now in need of some work.

Our club still needs a member to come forward and volunteer to serve the club as treasurer to replace Diane Barns who had to resign.

The upcoming April British Car Fools Bash on Saturday sponsored this year by ABCS was discussed, and all arrangements are complete. Some ABCS members will depart Kingsport at 8:30 AM from Federated Auto Parts on Eastman Road (behind Action Rentals), and others will depart from Rush Street Grill at 9:30.

Jon Whitt suggested that the club consider some ways to raise more funds other than just membership dues, and several ideas were discussed.

Details of the April 18 drive to the winery were announced. Our club will depart from O'Charley's in Morristown at 10:30 AM and will meet in Bean Station at about 11:00 with the ABCS drivers from Kingsport and others. Lunch will be at the Clinch Mountain Look Out restaurant in Thorn Hill, Tennessee around 1:00 PM.

Meeting March 5, 2009

The club met at at O'Charley's restaurant at 7:00 PM for some more great fellowship and another good meal. The meeting was attended by fifteen members: Juan Dominguez; Carl Floyd; Herren Floyd; George & Teresa Greene; Chuck & JoAnn Hamilton; Paul Kern; Mike Merritt; Jim & Susanne Neidert; Nate Patterson; Jim & Melinda Watson; and Jon Whitt.

Due to personal difficulties, Diane Barns has found it neccesary to resign the office of club treasurer. Our club now needs a member to come forward and volunteer to serve the club as treasurer for the remainder of her term.

Jon Whitt had waited on March 4 at the county courthouse for over two hours before Cherokee Park reservations were opened to the public to make sure the large shelter was reserved for the April British Car Fools Bash on April 4, only to learn that it had already been reserved in January in conjunction with the rental of the amphitheater by another group for a 3-day event. The club decided to move the April Fools event to Panther Creek State Park, and other clubs will be notified of the change.

Details of the March 14 drive to historic Rogersville were announced. Our club will depart from O'Charley's at 9:00 AM and meet others in Bean Station about 9:30. We will drive to Rogersville and meet the ABCS drivers in the parking lot behind the Shepherds Center, 306 East Main Street (next to Citizens Bank) about 10:00. There will be a walking tour for about an hour, and then a drive. Lunch will be at the Pig-N-Chick restaurant.

February 5, 2009

The club met at at O'Charleys restaurant at 7:00 PM for some great fellowship and a good meal. The meeting was attended by fourteen members: Mark & Karyn Bourne; Juan Dominguez; Herren Floyd; George & Teresa Greene; Chuck & JoAnn Hamilton; Paul Kern; our new members, Michael & Nelda Merritt; Jim Neidert; Jim Watson; and Jon Whitt.

A schedule of club driving events for the year was handed out to members at the meeting. The next drive will be to the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum on February 14, details of which are posted on the Events Calendar on this website.

A board meeting called by our President, George Greene, was held at his home on Saturday, January 31. Club drives and events were planned, and it was decided that the club would not plan to sponsor our own car show this year.

January 2, 2009

The club met at the home of Jim and Suzanne Neidert on Friday, January 2 instead of Thursday, January 1 which was a holiday. We very much enjoyed the splendid food and hospitality provided by the Neiderts at their delightful lakeside home. We were given a tour of their home and the extra rooms and very large garage and work shop (with lift) they had added to it. In the garage, we saw Jim's MGA project cars.

The meeting was attended by eleven members: Jim & Suzanne Neidert; George & Teresa Greene; Chuck & JoAnn Hamilton; Jon Whitt; Jim & Melinda Watson; Herren & Otti Floyd.

Club Business: George Greene showed us the 2009 calendar that his daughter designed for the club that features color photos of our MGs and costs only $5.00 each. The club decided to send a cash gift of $25 to Holston Valley Medical Center, Oncology Services in memory of our dear departed member, Ann Kern. Herren will bring some flyers and wallet-size invitations to be distributed at the next meeting. The By-Laws were revised to eliminate the vacant position of an elected Chairperson from the Executive Board. It was decided to have a meeting of the Drives Committee at George Greene's home on Sunday, January 11 at 2:30 PM.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, February 5 at 7:00 PM at O'Charley's restaurant in Morristown, Tennessee.
